ELMU and UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta Forge Partnership to Enhance Regional Academic Collaboration
Enforcement Leadership and Management University (ELMU) is optimistic that its newly signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Yogyakarta (UPNVY), Indonesia, will serve as a catalyst for expanding the educational network between Malaysia and Indonesia.
According to ELMU Vice Chancellor, Professor Datuk Dr. Kassim Noor Mohamed, the agreement reflects a commitment to shared values, mutual academic goals, and efforts to strengthen relations between the peoples of both nations.
“We are deeply honoured to collaborate with such a reputable institution as UPNVY. While ELMU is relatively young, it was established by seasoned professionals and veterans grounded in the principles of integrity and transformation,” he remarked.
Through this partnership, the two universities plan to collaborate on joint research projects, academic publications, student and faculty exchange programmes, and regional workshops and conferences—particularly in the fields of investigative sciences, soil science, sustainable development, and public governance.
The MoU was formally signed by Datuk Dr. Kassim and UPNVY Rector, Prof. Dr. Mohamad Irhas Effendi at the UPNVY Rectorate Building in Yogyakarta. Joining the ELMU delegation were Prof. Dr. Pakhriazad Hassan Zaki, Dean of the School of Investigative Sciences, and Shiz Kassim, Vice President of Group Marketing and Communications.
Dr. Kassim also underlined that the MoU supports ELMU’s mission as a pioneering institution in leadership and enforcement education, aligning with Malaysia’s objectives as the 2025 ASEAN Chair to advance regional strategic integration.
“This collaboration transcends geographical boundaries, grounded in shared responsibility, transparency, and the unity of ASEAN. It positions ELMU as a strategic knowledge partner dedicated to regional transformation—anchored in ethical education, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and innovative governance in Southeast Asia,” he said.
In his remarks, Prof. Dr. Mohamad Irhas described the signing as a historic milestone, ushering in a strong and enduring partnership between UPNVY and ELMU.
“We believe this collaboration will yield substantial benefits for both institutions, especially in advancing the Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi—the Three Pillars of Higher Education encompassing education, research, and community service,” he noted.
He further expressed hope that the agreement would be translated into tangible initiatives rather than remaining symbolic.
“With a shared spirit of cooperation and mutual benefit, I am confident that we can bring our planned activities to fruition, delivering real value to students, faculty, and the wider community,” he concluded.
